Votive Candle Tips

Read General Candle Safety and Tips, first.

1.                  Place candles on a protected, heat resistant surface, such as a trivet.  Hot votives or votive holders can damage furniture.

2.                  Remove all wrapping and/or decoration before burning your votive candle.

3.                  Do not place votives directly on an electric candle warmer plate.

4.                  Burn votives in a snug holder, not free standing, as they will create pools of wax.

5.                  The more snug the fit of the votive container around the votive, the longer you will enjoy your candle.

6.                  Be cautious of burning votives in electric potpourri or simmer pots.  These devices use too high of a temperature for natural wax blends, such as the brand featured on this web site.

7.                  If a votive heats at too high of a temperature, your wax will burn and you won’t be able to smell the scent you purchased.  (But you WILL definitely smell burnt wax.)

8.                  An electric tart warmer (the type with a light bulb for the heat) will heat the votive at a lower temperature, increasing the amount of time of the scent.

9.                  If placing a votive in any type of warmer or simmer pot, whether electric or non- electric, remove the wick (pulling the metal disk from the bottom of the votive) before placing in the warming unit.
